UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - the EAGLE
Since World War II the United States has been the number one super power both economically and militarily. Right or wrong it has acted as the world’s policeman being involved in events scattered across the globe.
1941 TO 1949
Interestingly there was significant American resistance to entering into the role of “Arsenal of Democracy” until 7 December 1941 - the Day of Infamy. Until that fateful date what was left of the British Empire and its colonies faced Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan essentially alone. China was in a desperately poor state, reeling from ruthless invasion and India was on the list. The USSR did not hold much hope either having been invaded in June 1941 (not many know that at one point Stalin offered Hitler surrender terms). Sir Winston Churchill lobbied President F. D. Roosevelt desperately because he knew that without American help, England was almost certainly doomed. As fate would have it, America’s logistical support of the USSR and Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor ensured the Axis’ defeat. The rest, as they say, is history.
