BREITBART has reported that Egypt to Syria to aid Bashar al-Assad and Russia. This move would indicate Egypt's distancing itself from its ties with Saudi Arabia. However, PRESSTV.IR news agency (an Iranian outlet) denies BREITBART's claim.
Egypt's decision to not support Saudi Arabia in Yemen and the push-back on proposed construction of a bridge across the Strait of Tiran would indicate reports of increased leanings towards Tehran by Cairo at the expense of Riyadh have some truth in them. DEBKAfile's military and intelligence sources report that Egyptian pilots are flying in Syria for Assad.
It will be interesting to see what happens next. If Egypt's new support of Syria is indeed true, is will signal yet another failure of the Obama Administration to properly assess the ability of Russia and Iran to influence events on the ground in Syria.
