The Russian Secretary of the Security Council provided an interview regarding strategic concerns and position on Ukraine and the Crimea.
Both the USA and Russia are accusing each other of incitement. However, it is difficult to understand why both parties are apparently so willing to endure the costs and risks of escalation given so few years have passed since the end of the Cold War.
SPEAROFATHENA believes that the Crimea is indispensable to Russian strategic defense of the Black Sea. On the other hand, settlement of the Ukraine eastern civil war / rebellion is going to take the best negotiators and peacemakers available to end. The Soviet 1930s Ukraine starvation program, divided loyalties in WWII and the Ukraine insurgency into about 1948 are not going to be erased from the list of issues easily.
Strong leadership and determination to cease this futile and dangerous campaign is required of America, Russia and Europe. There are more pressing matters of concern to all parties - look to the south - that are going to demand attention irrespective of the foolish squabbling in the north....
